Us apart from Jesus – Why we need a Saviour

'Behold, I was born in iniquity.
My mother conceived me in sin.’
Psalm 51:5

‘Surely there is not a righteous person on earth who does good and doesn’t sin.’ Ec 7:20

‘For we have all become like one who is unclean,
and all our righteousness is like a polluted garment.
We all fade like a leaf;
and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.’
Is 64:6

‘The heart is deceitful above all things
and it is exceedingly corrupt.’
Jer 17:9a

‘All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son and He to whom the Son desires to reveal Him.’ Mat 11:27

‘For from within, out of the hearts of people, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts, covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and defile the person.”’ Mark 7:21-23

‘As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.’ Mark 10:17-18

‘This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil.’ John 3:19

‘What then? Are we better than they? No, in no way. For we previously warned both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin. As it is written,

“There is no one righteous; no, not one.
There is no one who understands.
There is no one who seeks after God.
They have all turned away.
They have together become unprofitable.
There is no one who does good,
no, not so much as one.”
“Their throat is an open tomb.
With their tongues they have used deceit.”
“The poison of vipers is under their lips.”
“Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.”
“Their feet are swift to shed blood.
Destruction and misery are in their ways.
The way of peace, they haven’t known.”
“There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that
every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God.’ Rom 3:9-19

‘for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God;’ Rom 3:23

‘Therefore as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin; so death passed to all people, because all sinned.’ Rom 5:12

‘For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don’t find it doing that which is good.’ Rom 7:18

‘But the Scripture imprisoned all things under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.’ Gal 3:22

‘For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire.’ Gal 5:17

‘Now the deeds of the flesh are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s Kingdom.’ Gal 5:19-21

'For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh; though I myself might have confidence even in the flesh. If any one else thinks to have confidence in the flesh, I yet more: circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee; concerning zeal, persecuting the assembly; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, found blameless. However, I consider those things that were gain to me as a loss for Christ. Yes most certainly, and I count all things to be a loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whom I suffered the loss of all things, and count them nothing but dung, that I may gain Christ’ Phil 3:3-8

‘To those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled. They profess that they know God, but by their deeds they deny him, being abominable, disobedient, and unfit for any good work.’ Titus 1:15b-16
